I just discovered this tool and tried it on a bunch of series recording. All of them worked fine except for Shark Tank. For some reason, it is not able to recognize the episodes. Strangely, the episode description in the WVT metadata seems to match that on TVDB.

For example, the Episode is S04E06, and the WVT name is:

Shark Tank_KGTVDT_2012_10_19_19_58_00.wtv (broadcast date = October 19, 2012)

WVT Program Description: "Professional football player Brandon Jacobs hopes to help a woman find success with her protein-infused energy drink; a lobster roll food truck; eco-friendly cleaning products; colorful drink insulators; follow-up on a lip balm idea."

TVDB Overview: (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&seriesid=100981&seasonid=497747&id=4414078&lid=7)  "Professional football player Brandon Jacobs hopes to help a woman find success with her protein-infused energy drink; a lobster roll food truck; eco-friendly cleaning products; colorful drink insulators; follow-up on a lip balm idea."

Unfortunately, the script doesn't use the episode description when trying to match episodes. It only looks for the episode name. In the case of Shark Tank, it looks like the broadcaster isn't always providing them, which is why contributors to TvDB are using the broadcast date as the episode name.

Unfortunately, this means that there isn't much that can be done about this one.

Sorry.

I see, but then I am a bit confused....

What is the purpose of the following log entries (shown above):
MatchEpisodePrecisely:
BestMatchEpisode:
MatchEpisodeImprecisely:

..and why are they called multiple times?

OK, so the way the script works is, roughly speaking, this:

  • It tries different ways to try to figure out the episode title. It does this by looking at the metadata and using either the whole string or part of the string that it finds in various places.
  • It then uses different routines to see if the text it has found matches against text retrieved from TheTVDB:
    • MatchEpisodePrecisely does just that - it looks for an absolutely exact match of what the script *thinks* might be the episode title.
    • BestMatchEpisode takes what the script thinks might be the title and does a calculation against ALL of the episode titles for the series in order to see which ones are closest. This allows, for example, "The Episode Title" to be closely matched to "Episode Title" when other routines wouldn't handle that.
    • MatchEpisodeImprecisely does the same as MatchEpisodePrecisely BUT it strips special characters out of the proposed text to be matched against titles (' , ! ? - . ) in another attempt to try and ensure that punctuation and spacing isn't playing a part in causing the script to fail to match.

I hope that helps clarifies things a bit. Essentially, it means that TheTVDB must have episode titles that roughly match what the broadcaster uses. For Shark Tank, that isn't the case and the script doesn't try to match against descriptions. I could consider adding that ...
